Well here it is.  Im sorry to be reporting this but the next stuff pack for the Sims 3 will be Katy Perry Related…

If you cannot tell from this post I’m not overly impressed by this, I feel like EA is going a little overboard with this katy perry stuff.  HA Stuff, stuff pack that may have just been some sort of joke.

At the moment I’m not sure the release date, but I will keep you posted when I find out.  Until then check out the Sims 3 Site for more info about the new stuff pack.  Also to let you all know I will be getting it just to review it for all of you.  Im not really into the entire Katy Perry Thing.

Here are some great videos that show off the parts of the new Sim City.

Apple finally brings full HD to the Apple TV.

- HD Update -

Today amongst the iPad announcements Apple announced the new Apple TV.  It looks very similar to the current model.  The only difference is that it now outputs full 1080p HD video.  It also sports a new UI for users to navigate.

- UI Improvements mean more -

My first impressions when I seen the new UI was that this is how Apple would bring apps to the Apple TV in the future.  If you look at the layout of the Movies, TV Shows, Music and other app icons it looks very iOS Like.  This would make it very simple for Apple to begin allowing users to downed apps to this new “Home screen” and in turn making the Apple TV that much more powerful.

At this time apps are not available on the Apple TV but heres hoping that with time we will see them on the one device that seem to be lacking them in Apples World.

The transition is finally over, as Apple brings the final app from the iLife suite of applications to the iPad, iPhoto.

- iPhoto is Here -

Apple has made the finally app from the iLife suite available today on the iPad, iPhoto.  iPhoto for the iPad keeps many of the best features from the desktop app, but brings them in a multitouch flavour that everyone will like.

iPhoto for iPad will make it easier to make those photos from your digital camera look great while on the go.  Just import them into your iPad and go to work on them.  using the easy to use effect editors you can adjust the contrast of the photo.  Get rid of red eye.  Adjust the white balance and more.  All the features you need to make those photos you love so much look just that much better.

Photo Journals have to be the one feature of this app that I’m looking forward to the most.  Journals allows you to arrange your photos in a new interactive digital scrapbook that can be uploaded to the web for anyone to see.  You can rearrange photos into different areas, and even attach map widgets and date widgets to allow your viewers to see where and when these photos were taken.  Its a great new way to show off all your photos right from your iPad, and the web.

- iMovie Update -

The popular mobile video editor iMovie got an update today.  Bringing in new themes and arrangement configurations to make your home  movies look that  much better.  It alls now supports the high resolution of the new iPad and the 5 megapixel camera in the new iPad.

- Garageband Update -

Garage band got a few simple updates, from smart strings and a new feature that allows you to jam out with friends that also have the Garageband app on there iOS devices.

- Apps for All -

These apps are now available for download on the App Store.  If you previously bought Garageband, or iMovie then you will find these updates for free.  The new iPhone app is available for purchase at a price of $4.99.

These apps also work on all iOS devices.  iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

-My Thoughts -

In the end its nice to see Apple updating the Apps they have released to give more functionality to the users who love the apps.  The only thing that I’m slightly confused about is that reason Apple real eased iPhoto for iOS.  They already have a pretty feature packed Photo app on there devices so I’m not sure why they did not just bring the new features into that app since its built right in for the users to use.

It will be interesting to see if users download the iPhoto app since it carries allot of the same functionality as the standalone photos app.

Its here, the new iPad

Today Apple announced the next generation of the iPad.  Bringing over the stunning Retina Display from the iPhone, and the HD video recording technology of the iPhone 4S the new iPad makes changes where changes were needed.

Its what we See

The most important part of the iPad got an update today, the screen.  Now the iPad boasts the highest screen resolution of any mobile device in the world.  The retina display of the new iPad has 4 times the pixels per inch as the iPad 2 meaning all you photos, webpages, and apps will look that much better when viewed from this device.

To Help capture the beautiful images that will be displayed on this display the real camera on the new iPad has been updated to 5 megapixels.  The camera also now sports the same optics that the iPhone 4S has meaning your photos will look that much better when taken from this device.

A5X for Performance

Apple has also gave a slight speed bump to the new iPad.  Bringing the A5 chip from the iPhone to the iPad with a slight twist.  They have upgraded the on-board graphics processor to support the higher resolution of the display.

Connection Speed is Here

The new iPad will not suffer from the slow speeds that 3G creates anymore, the new iPad is now 4G equipped.  Apple has stated that the device supports 4G from Rogers, Telus, Bell, Verizon, and AT&T.  This new speed will allow your iPad to surf the web using the cell networks at twice the current speeds of 3G.

Name Change?

Apple has for the first time in a very long time dropped the numbering system of its newest device.  They are not calling this the iPad 3, or iPad HD, or even the 3rd Generation  iPad.  They are simply calling it the new iPad, or just iPad.

I find this to be a welcome improvement in the naming conventions that Apple has used in the past.  I hope to see the iPhone and iPods follow the same naming convention in the future.

The only problem with this new naming convention is that Apple will continue to sell the iPad 2 in retail stores, under its name iPad 2.  I can see consumers getting confused by the names iPad 2 and the New iPad.  Which one is really the newest one?  This may just be my thoughts on the subject but I feel that many retail workers will have to continue to explain this in the coming months.

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on this event were as suspected.  The iPad got a slight update, nothing major in my books.  Now I do realize that the screen resolution bump is quite significant, but overall its nothing that I’m going to sell my current iPad for and go out and pick up the New iPad.

I do though want to see the new screen for myself.  In the end I will wait for the Next iPad, or New New iPad, however Apple wants to brand it next year.

Its official Maxis is back and they are producing the next version of the game that started it all, Sim City.

The Beginning

Let me take you back.  Will Wright created the first Sims City back in 1989.  It was his first game to use the Sim name.  This then spawned many other games with the Sim name including the most famous of them all “The Sims.”

Now as The Sims, Sims 2, and Sims 3 prospered Sims City Faltered under new creative directors.  The game moved into four successful versions but when Sims Societies hit the game fell off the radar.  Sims City Societies was the death of the most notable City Simulation game in the world.

Now we bring in the year 2012, Rumors are floating around that Maxis may be back from the dead with a new version of Sim City.  Possibly called Sims City 5 possibly something else.  Well the rumors were true and Sim City is back from the dead.  Its has a new look and all new features.

The World is made up of more than One

The New Sim City will bring in a whole new idea of multiplayer to City Simulation.  Maxis has found a way to bring in multiplayer actions without losing the individual players control by allowing individual players to control there own cites.  Build them up the way they would like.  The multiplayer aspect is brought in when your city affects the region it occupies.

Just like the real world if one city dumps up stream from another, the city down stream is affected by it.  This idea has been brought into the Sims City game.  Your city will be self sufficient in some aspects, but it will also rely on the surrounding cites for the remainder of its needs.

Your water treatment plant may provide water for your city and one neighboring city, but if a larger city upstream pollutes the water you take in as drinking water and ship off to another city then it affects everyone.  Your actions in the game will affect the other players in the region, and theres will affect you.

In this way you will work by yourself, but you may want to keep in mind whats better for the region then just your city.

“SIM”ulation

Maxis has for the first time truly brought the Sims and Sim City together into one.  Now this does not mean the games will work together, but it does mean that for the first time every in Sims City each and every Sim in your city will have its own autonomy.  This means that each sim will have a job, home, family, friends, and even there own favorite places to shop and relax.  Each sim will be like a real person.

One thing to note about this is that you will not be able to control these sims directly like you can in the Sims 3.  But through building different structures in your city you can attract different types of sims, in different ways.

This new type of automation will bring the most lifelike City Simulation to your computer.

Only the Beginning

Now this is only the beginning and Maxis has only release a small bit of information about this game but from where it stands now it looks like Sim City may stand a very good chance at a rebirth.

I know I will be looking forward to Sim City in 2013.

Its coming back, the great world of SimCity is making a comeback.  Over 10 years after Will Wright created the first city simulation game Maxis has confirmed that they are creating the 5th installment of SimCity.
The new world will include high resolution graphics, and a full 3D enabled camera that can be oriented by the user to view and experience all there world has to offer.
The game is currently 30% complete so there is still a long list of items that need to be completed before launch in 2013, but with many new features the game is sure to offer some great new life to the SimCity franchise.
Check out the interview below from GameStar with a member of the team working on SimCity 5

Interview with Lucy Bradshaw

GameStar: It’s been a while since the fourth installment of SimCity …

Lucy Bradshaw: Because we were busy with The Sims and Spore, and SimCity wanted to make sure count on an excellent artificial intelligence, a decent multiplayer mode, and finally get road curves and 3D graphics with ease. So you can change the camera angle and the houses disappear automatically by reducing the zoom view.

GameStar: Import your own houses in The Sims, would be a stroke of genius for players of SimCity.

Lucy Bradshaw: At present we have not expected, because the game is technically very different. However, customization is: you design a house in The Sims very detailed, and SimCity are improved buildings with new modules, has its own intelligence and gameplay.

GameStar: With all the meetings, do you have time to play Lucy Bradshaw?

Play our own songs and sending feedback to the team. In travel, play with the iPhone and the iPad, and I usually spend my Christmas vacation in strategy games in real time.

Closing Comments by GameStar editor Roland Austinat

According to Maxis, still take approximately one year to SimCity is ready. But I like what I’ve seen so far: the online modes, new graphics, smarter Sims, upgradable buildings, with individual strengths and compelling cities, world rankings, send info-graphs and dynamic music. You can feel how much heart and blood have designers to develop the first delivery in the modern era. The fact that the creator of SimCity Will Wright does not work in this part, I do not worry: The fourth installment has already been created without their help. Just a shame that our practice was very short: I like to have seen ships and aircraft, or the disasters that have announced, explosions, snow storms, meteor impacts and other disasters do simulated physically correct to turn a city into a lot of Casino debris.

It appears that Apple has once again lost an iPhone prototype in a bar, but this time in San Francisco.  If you remember from last year an iPhone 4 prototype was lost in a bar, then found and sold to Gizmodo for $5,000.  Its said that Apple is frantically looking for the device.

Here is my personal opinion on the matter.  Apple needs to find a better way of keeping track of there prototypes, like maybe GPS or something.  Also I’m thinking after this no one will ever be bringing Apple Prototypes into bars.  Lost iPhone 4 in Bar in 2010.  Another Lost iPhone 5 in Bar in 2011.  We can only hope for 2012.

P.S. Looking for lost iPhones in bars seems like a great way to find prototypes.  You don’t even have to break into Apple to get them, the engineers will just leave them lying around.
